When a commercial medicine is out of stock, on back order or discontinued, it can disrupt your treatment. In some cases your doctor can prescribe a compounded medicine instead, and our pharmacists in Ashmore can prepare it.
How compounding can help
Working from your doctor’s prescription, our pharmacists can often prepare a medicine containing the same active ingredient, in the strength and form your doctor prescribes. We make it from pharmaceutical-grade raw materials.
A compounded medicine is not identical to the commercial product. Your doctor will decide whether it is suitable for you.
How it works
- Talk to your doctor about whether a compounded medicine is an option while the product is unavailable.
- Send us the prescription. Your doctor can email it to us, or you can bring it to our pharmacy at 20 Central Park Ave, Ashmore.
- Collect or have it delivered. Pick up in Ashmore, or choose delivery anywhere in Australia.
Good to know
- We compound a medicine when there is a clinical need, such as when the commercial product is unavailable.
- Some medicines cannot be compounded. If that applies, our pharmacists will let you or your doctor know.
- A valid prescription from an Australian registered prescriber is required.
Compounded medicines are prepared for an individual patient on prescription. They are not assessed by the TGA for safety, quality or efficacy.
