Most medicines contain inactive ingredients, called excipients, as well as the active ingredient. Some people need to avoid certain excipients, such as lactose, gluten, artificial dyes, preservatives or animal-derived gelatin.
Medicines made without the ingredients you avoid
Where your prescriber agrees there is a need, our pharmacists can prepare your medicine using a base that leaves out the ingredient you react to or choose to avoid.
- Lactose-free and gluten-free capsule fillers
- Plant-based capsule shells in place of gelatin
- Dye-free and preservative-free liquids, where the formula remains stable
- Hypoallergenic creams and ointment bases for sensitive skin
Preservative-free liquids can have a shorter shelf life. We will tell you how long your medicine lasts and how to store it.
How it works
- Tell your doctor and pharmacist about any allergies, intolerances or dietary needs.
- Your doctor writes the prescription and emails it to us, or you bring it to our pharmacy in Ashmore.
- We check every ingredient in the formula before we prepare it, then you collect it or we deliver Australia-wide.
A valid prescription from an Australian registered prescriber is required.
Compounded medicines are prepared for an individual patient on prescription. They are not assessed by the TGA for safety, quality or efficacy.
